U16 Teck Open Round 1 at Sun Peaks, January 22–25, 2026

By Jennifer Kay 02/01/2026, 1:30pm PST

The U16 Teck Open Round 1 at Sun Peaks delivered fast, high-quality racing on the OSV run, providing a strong early-season test for athletes from across BC. MWSC was represented by 10 athletes and led by coaches Clint and Chelsea. Cold temperatures and clear skies created consistent, firm conditions, allowing racers to showcase both technical skill and speed over four days of competition—two days of giant slalom followed by two days of slalom. MWSC athletes gained valuable race experience and points in a deep, competitive field of 91 women and 86 men.

Congratulations to all of our athletes on completing the race series, with special recognition to Danica Williams for her consistency across all four days, highlighted by a 3rd-place podium finish in the Day 1 giant slalom.

Eleven U14 athletes travelled with Sylvi and Clint, and chaperone Norm, to Whistler for 2 days of training and 2 days of racing under sunny skies in Whistler.  The races were very challenging, in length and pitch and over half of the participating athletes (75 males and 60 females) did not have a final result in the combined slalom.  Despite the challenging conditions 10 MWSC athletes qualified for BC Winter Games (read more below), and we had several top 10 finishes including a podium result for Rebecca Good!  Athletes supported each other in the highs and lows of alpine racing, it was a great start to the race calendar for U14s!

MWSC Top-20 Fiinishes

History made at Cain Cup Race

By Jennifer Kay 02/01/2026, 1:15pm PST

Congratulations to FIS athlete Hazel Schmidt, who captured the prestigious Cain Cup and the title of Queen of the Hill on January 17, 2026. Just 16—the minimum age required to compete—Hazel returned to her home hill at Mt. Cain to take on the renowned Cain Cup, a “Cain-style” slalom race that brings skiers, snowboarders, and telemarkers of all ages together on the ski run, The Face.

More than 50 competitors aged 16 to 70 completed two qualifying runs, with Hazel posting the fastest times of all disciplines and ages. In the final “big course” showdown of the top 10 men and women, Hazel delivered a standout run to become the youngest winner in Cain Cup history—and the fastest overall racer of the day. History made!

2025 Holiday Camp Report

By Rachel Moll 01/03/2026, 11:00am PST

Between Dec 20–Dec 30, U10–FIS athletes participated in up to seven days of Holiday Camp.  A variety of snow conditions led coaches to plan a mix of on-snow and off-snow activities. In addition to technical free skiing, athletes enjoyed scavenger hunts, capture the flag, and snowshoeing!  Dryland training exercises, video analysis, and tuning demonstrations rounded out the camp.

Regardless of conditions, Holiday Camp is a great way to get warmed up for the season and to meet new teammates and coaches. A big thank-you to the coaches and coordinators who provided plenty of information and options while navigating changing snow conditions.

Panorama FIS Race & U16 Training Camp

By Jennifer Kay 01/03/2026, 10:45am PST

The Mt. Washington Ski Club kicked off the competitive season at Panorama Mountain Resort, where our four FIS athletes competed in the MacLachlan GMC Cup from December 18–21, 2025. At the same time, four U16 athletes were on-snow for a focused training camp, making Panorama a hub of MWSC activity to start the winter.

Athletes were supported by Head Coach John Trimmer and U16 Coach Chelsea Adam, who guided the team through a busy week of racing, training, and early-season momentum building.

The event opened with women’s and men’s Giant Slalom races on December 18. Overnight snowfall delivered classic “Panorama powder,” but fresh conditions led to the cancellation of racing on December 19. The second GS ran on December 20, followed by a clean, well-run Slalom on December 21.

As the first team event of the season, Panorama set a strong foundation. Our U16 athletes logged some early-season training days, and our FIS athletes gained valuable race starts, and posted multiple finishes across the event—an encouraging start to the year ahead.
